PREK/K BIBLE LESSON:

WELCOME TO OUR CLASSROOM

DECLARE THE WORD OF GOD AT THE CLASSROOM DOOR:

  • The Word of God says, “ENTER HIS GATES WITH THANKSGIVING” (Ps 100:4)
  • The doorway to our classroom is like a gate.  As we prepare to enter the classroom, let’s clap each word and declare together, THANK YOU FOR OUR CLASSROOM.

FREE PLAY IN CENTERS:

The first class of the years starts off with a shortened circle time and a longer playtime.  New and returning students will need an introduction to centers.  This can be accomplished by taking them on a CLASSROOM TRAIN RIDE or by watching a short INTRODUCTION TO PLAY STATIONS:1video.

Once you have shown them the classroom centers and taught them how to use their PLAY TICKET, release them one at a time to play.

1 MINUTE BELL: Ring the bell or set a timer to indicate the end of PLAYTIME. Tell the students they have 1 more minute to play.

CLEAN-UP: Students tidy up the centers where they were playing when the bell rang. Teachers oversee this activity.  Students learn to sort and return items to their proper place. In so doing, they are learning to take care of the classroom.  It also helps them be prepared for dismissal. Once the centers are tidy, students move to the BOOK NOOK and quietly look at books. Students are responsible for returning their PLAY CARD to the tray.

GAME: Play a round of BEAN BAG TOSS until parents/guardians arrive.

  • Seat students on carpet mats in a circle formation. Place a bowl or bin in the center of the circle.
  • Toss each student a bean bag.  Students do not get to pick which color they are given.  Use the phrase, ‘You get what you get and you don’t get upset.” Students put the beanbags on the ground in front of them and wait for their names to be called before taking their turn.
  • The teacher demonstrates an underhand toss.
  • Call students by name, one at a time, to take their turn.
  • Model how to encourage each child by saying, “Good try!”
  • After everyone has taken a turn, repeat until dismissal.

 DISMISSAL:

  • Assign an adult/helper to greet parents/guardians.
  • Call the students one at a time when families arrive.  Prompt other students to call out “GOODBYE (student’s name)”
  • Students check the mailboxes for take-home papers: WELCOME LETTER PDF; MY CLASSROOM BOOKLET PDF
  • Today’s worksheet remains in class for display on the bulletin board PDF
  • Students select a snack from the table in the hallway
  • Ask permission to TAKE A FAMILY PHOTO IN THE HALLWAY (for the bulletin board/BB)

CLOSING DOWN THE CLASSROOM: PDF

  • Wash brushes and close paint jars
  • Turn off battery-operated keyboard
  • Stack chairs and carpet mats
  • Vacuum area rug (rechargeable vacuum plugged into corner outlet)
  • Turn off the heat and lights
  • Place garbage can outside the classroom door
  • Return teaching materials to the packet

POSTCLASS FOLLOW-UP (LEAD TEACHER):
