BIBLE STORY:

  • READ the story of Peter’s Sermon and the Baptism of 3,000 from a Children’s Bible
  • OR RETELL the story from the following outline…

BIBLE STORY MAIN POINTS:

  • After Jesus went back to Heaven in the clouds, the disciples went back to Jerusalem and waited altogether in the Upper Room, just like Jesus had told them to do. On the 10thday after Jesus had gone back to Heaven, the Holy Spirit came!  He sounded like rushing wind, He looked like a flame of fire on their heads, and He gave them power to speak new languages!
  • There was a crowd of people visiting Jerusalem from faraway places. When they heard the disciples talking in different languages some of the visitors said the disciples were just being silly.  They did not understand the power of the Holy Spirit.
  • But one of Jesus’ disciples named Peter stood up in front of the crowd and began preaching to them about Jesus.
  • He told them, “The disciples are not being silly.  They are filled with the power of the HOLY SPIRIT to tell you about JESUS in your own language.”
  • “And everyone who calls on the name of JESUS will be saved from sin and death!”
  • “Jesus was sent by God to save us.  He did many good things to show us God’s love.  But you said He told lies.  You put Him to death. But He didn’t stay dead.  He came alive again because He is more powerful than death.”
  • King David once said that the Messiah-Savior-King Forever would die and come alive again.  This JESUS whom you killed never lied.  He told the Truth.  He is the Messiah-Savior-King Forever!”
  • When the crowd heard this, they were sorry that they had killed Jesus.  They cried out, “What should we do now?”
  • Peter answered, “Tell God you are sorry for your sin.  Be baptized in the name of Jesus.  God will forgive you and wash away your sins.  He will give you the Holy Spirit, too.  This Promise is for everyone in the whole world who call on the name of JESUS!”
  • That day (Pentecost) about 3,000 people believed in JESUS and were baptized!!
