Stop in the hallway on the way to the classroom. Station each child in front of their body tracing. Give each child a box of crayons and instruct them to color ONE SPECIFIC AREA OF THE TRACING (e.g., skin, hair, eyes, shirt, pants, OR shoes).
CLASSROOM DOORWAY (GATEWAY):
- The Bible is God’s Word. His Words are TRUE, and RIGHT, and they last FOREVER!

- Thank You Father for giving us the Bible!
PLAY IN CENTERS:
- Release the children one at a time to get their play cards and choose a center
- Art project: THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT / THE WORD OF GOD
- Materials: prepared swords, 2 foam brushes, golden paint, a damp towel for cleanup, a marker for printing their name on the backside of the sword
- Call students 2 at a time to print their name on the back then paint the top side of their sword (golden yellow color)
1 MINUTE WARNING:
- Set a timer to indicate the end of PLAY TIME. When the timer rings, announce, “1 more minute to finish playing” (students CANNOT switch centers once the timer has sounded).
CLEAN-UP:
Students must tidy up the centers where they were playing when the timer rang. Teachers/Helpers oversee this activity. Students learn to sort and return items to their proper place. In so doing, they are learning to take care of the classroom. It also helps them be prepared for dismissal. Once the centers are tidy, students move to the BOOK NOOK and quietly look at books.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CLASSROOM BOOK NOOK:
GAME:
If parents have not arrived after 5 minutes of quiet reading, lead the children in a game (such as Bean Bag Toss, Duck Duck Goose, Doggie Doggie Who Has My Bone, I Spy, etc). Game supplies are available in the classroom.
DISMISSAL:
Assign an adult to greet parents/guardians.
Call students ONE AT A TIME when families arrive. Prompt the remaining student to call out, “GOODBYE (student’s name).”
Families check mailboxes. Today’s TAKE HOME: MY BIBLE booklet; BIBLE worksheet; Bible Recommendations for 4-6 year old.
INVITE FAMILIES TO PERUSE THE CHILDREN’S BIBLE DISPLAY IN THE HALLWAY. IF FAMILIES DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO A CHILDREN’S BIBLE IN THE HOME, SUGGEST A VERSION THAT THEY COULD PURCHASE ONLINE OR OFFER THEM A FREE BEGINNER’S BIBLE
CLOSING DOWN THE CLASSROOM:
- Wash brushes and close paint jars
- Turn off the battery-operated keyboard
- Stack chairs and carpet mats
- Vacuum area rug (rechargeable vacuum plugged into corner outlet)
- Turn off the heat and lights
- Place garbage can outside the classroom door
- Return teaching materials to the packet
FOLLOW-UP BEFORE NEXT CLASS:
- Print “Bring Your Bible To Class” postcard.
- Mail postcards inviting the students to bring their Children’s Bible to church for the following class. “Dear _________, I your family has a Children’s Bible, bring it to class next Sunday. We are celebrating God’s Word!”
