BIBLE LESSON / STORY:
STORYTELLING VISUALS: A dresser drawer with articles of clothing for boys and girls and a dresser drawer with 6 pieces of the ARMOR OF GOD; a life-sized poster of a child wearing armor.
LESSON POINTS:
- God loves you very much.
- He gave you a family that loves you, too.
- Your family takes care of you in so many ways.
- One of the ways they take care of you is by giving you clothes to keep your body warm and dry
- Name some of the pieces of clothing that you might put on when you get dressed in the morning (Visual: remove named articles from the dresser drawer and lay them on the floor)
- Let each child name one item
- Yes! These clothes cover and protect your body
- God also has special covering for you to protect you from danger.
- God wants to protect you from satan who tries to trick you with his lies. If satan can trick you, then you are in danger of being hurt.
- What does God give you to protect you from satan?
- God gives you ARMOR! It’s invisible but it is REAL and POWERFUL!
- Take a look at Si Guy wearing God’s Armor.
- Let the children name something that they are wearing (remove a duplicate from the dresser drawer)
- Did you know that YOU are wearing God’s Armor, too? You can’t see it, but it is real.
- We can sing a song about God’s Armor. Stand up, everyone. Listen while I sing the song to you (or play the video). Try to copy the actions (perform the actions in slow motion so the children can imitate).
- The Armor of God will be our theme song this year (songsheet)
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS (pick one or create your own):
Dialogue Box
- Name one thing your family does to keep you safe
- CLASSROOM BLESSING: “Father, thank You for our families and all the things they do to keep us safe.
PLAY IN CENTERS:
- Release the children one at a time to get their play cards and choose a center
- Call the children one at a time to work on art project: Student Tracings: continue till each student has completed a life-sized tracing
1 MINUTE WARNING:
- Set a timer to indicate the end of PLAY TIME. When the timer rings, announce, “1 more minute to finish playing” (students CANNOT switch centers once the timer has sounded).
CLEAN-UP:
Students must tidy up the centers where they were playing when the timer rang. Teachers/Helpers oversee this activity. Students learn to sort and return items to their proper place. In so doing, they are learning to take care of the classroom. It also helps them be prepared for dismissal. Once the centers are tidy, students move to the BOOK NOOK and quietly look at books.
BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CLASSROOM:
GAME:
If parents have not arrived after 5 minutes of quiet reading, lead the children in a game (such as Bean Bag Toss; Duck Duck Goose; Doggie Doggie Who Has My Bone; Dress-Up Action Cards; I Spy; etc). Game supplies are available in the classroom.
DISMISSAL:
Assign an adult to greet parents/guardians.
Call students ONE AT A TIME when families arrive. Prompt the remaining student to call out, “GOODBYE (student’s name).”
